creative endeavors
My career has taken many turns: graphic designer, marketing consultant, filmmaker, film festival creator, educator, arts consultant, and event producer. I am proud of my multidisciplinary skills — and that I undertake each new endeavor with vigor. As a multidisciplinary artist, I have created works in print and film, with glass and metal, on billboards and trucks, with fabric and yarn, and through carpentry and set production.
risaikuru
Created for the 2021 National Cherry Blossom Festival
“Risaikuru (Recycle)” explores flowers created through repetitive patterns of. recycled materials — glass and plastic bottles, cans, and paper. When first used, they are a thing of beauty, designed for a specific purpose. However, once used, they lose their beauty, and evolve into trash. Reclaiming the beauty of these forms is a rebirth — similar to the annual rebirth of the District, notably marked by the blooming of the cherry blossoms.
how to give birth to a rabbit
Created for the 2017 Capital Fringe Festival
In 2017, I produced a small musical/song cycle based on the true story of Mary Toth, a 17th century housewife who faked giving birth to rabbits, upending the medical profession, the media, and the King's court. I brought on local and nationally-known songwriters to create songs for each character and to tell the story through a central concept.
